Pupils’ poetic messages to dog owners
CHILDREN are helping to improve their local environment with a series of poetic messages to dog owners.
As part of a project looking at the effect they and other people have on their surroundings, pupils at West Heslerton Primary School were asked to write a poem to help combat dog fouling.
Headteacher Rachel Wells said the pupils regularly looked at the impact they and others had on the environment and what they would do to help improve it.
“The pupils from Years 3 to 6 wrote a persuasive poem asking dog owners to pick up after their dogs,” she said.
“Five poems were selected which have been put on display near the school.”
Mrs Wells said the local dog warden had been so impressed by the poems that the school has made them available for other areas where dog fouling is a problem.
“We are pleased to be doing our bit to keep Ryedale beautiful,” she added.
Anyone who would like a copy of the poems should contact the school on 01944 728286.
DOG LITTER by Alicia Davison
Dog litter can destroy all
Oh dog poo look out
Giant mess isn't good
Let the diseases stop
It may be interesting to look at but certainly isn't good
The dog litter is icky
Tidy it up please
Energy is good but not with dog poo
really its horrid dog poo
SQUELCH! by Lily May
I was walking a stony path,
it was mid-summer.
The glinting sun was shining on my back.
I had sandals, white shorts and a lavender T-shirt on.
The fields beside me are luscious and green.
I ran away into the fresh smelling grass.
The cornfields all around me were golden and crisp.
I ran back onto the road.
I carried on toward the puffy clouds on the horizon.
The blue sky was blazing around me then… SQUELCH!
My foot landed in a big pile of dog poo.
My happiness turned to disgust as poo squashed between my toes.
The world around me seemed to turn grey as I thought WHY?
DOG POO by Finley May
Clean up your dog's poo.
Clean it when it needs the loo.
Did you know there is no such thing as the dog poo fairy!
Don't forget you!
