VOLUNTEERS are being sought to help play a key role in keeping Ryedale’s town centres safe.

The police are looking for people to work at Malton station at weekends and provide a first point of contact for members of the public.

Volunteers will work alongside local officers and will receive training in the basic functions of the front enquiry counter.

People are also needed to work with the CCTV system on Friday and Saturday nights after a relaunch of the Pubwatch scheme.

Insp Andy Everitt said CCTV played a key role in keeping Ryedale’s town centres safe and in particular with the night time economy.

“Volunteers will work alongside PCSOs in operating the cameras on Friday and Saturday nights and will play an integral role in supporting the Pubwatch scheme and directing local officers to incidents as they occur,” he added.

“This is about teamwork and good communication and I welcome volunteers who can spare a few hours to work alongside us and assist us in providing an enhanced service to our communities, either through CCTV on Friday and Saturday evenings or the front enquiry counter at Malton on weekends.”

To discuss the role, or for further information, contact the police force’s volunteers adviser David Goldsbrough at david.goldsbrough@northyorkshire.pn n.police.uk or telephone 01947 880707.
