Royal Opera star sings Malton's praises

PRAISE for Malton has come from a Covent Garden opera singer who will perform in the town.

Kate MCarney will sing on Saturday with Malton District Male Voice Choir to celebrate the Queen’s Jubilee and the choir’s fifth anniversary.

The acclaimed mezzo-soprano, who first visited the town three years ago, said: “I’m really looking forward to coming back to Malton and singing again.”

Kate is currently appearing in Puccini’s La Boheme and recently performed in Verdi’s Rigoletto.

Appearing in Malton by kind permission of the Royal Opera, she rejoins the company after her Malton performance for Verdi’s Falstaff.

She is being joined again by former professional opera singer, bass-baritone Chris Thornton-Holmes who is a co-founder of Malton District Male Voice Choir and now lives and teaches locally.

Chris said: “It is great to be singing again with the guys and to welcome back my dear friend Kate.”

Tickets for the event, at the Milton Rooms, are £8 from Hoppers on 01653 692014.
