Kirkbymoorside 10k run tribute to Lois, 13

TWO Ryedale School pupils have taken part in the Kirkbymoorside 10k run in memory of one of their friends.

Lily Cossins and Annabelle Smithson, who are both 15, decided to take part in the event to raise funds for the Meningitis Trust.

Their friend, Lois Phelps, a fellow pupil at the school, died in October 2009 from meningococcal septicaemia – a form of meningitis.

The girls said: “Lois was funny, kind and always smiling. She wanted the best for everyone and would do anything to help them.

“That is why we decided to do this race.

“We think she would be proud of us for doing something that will help other people.”

Lily and Annabelle, who wore bright yellow Meningitis Trust t-shirts for the race, were joined by one of their teachers, Emily Thornton.

“We hope to raise lots of money for the Meningitis Trust to help others who are suffering from the terrible illness and to show our appreciation for the trust and everything they do for families like the Phelps family,” they added.

Anyone who would like to make a donation should contact Ryedale School on 01439 771665.
