VILLAGERS in a North Yorkshire village celebrated May Day with a packed programme of fun activities.

Children from the primary school in Slingsby, near Malton, took part in a traditional maypole dance yesterday. About 20 pupils spent several weeks rehearsing their routine before the performance on the village green.

The village’s scarecrow festival also took place over the weekend, with 29 creations based on themes such as the Queen and kids’ TV shows.
