TOURISTS have praised Malton market manager Dave Roberts, for being “a hero” when he went to their aid after they found themselves without accommodation.

Gill and Glen Moreton, who live on the Isle of Wight, had booked holiday accommodation on the North York Moors but on arrival discovered it could not accommodate a wheelchair for Mr Moreton who is tertaplegic after breaking his neck. He is unable to stand or walk.

Mrs Moreton told the Gazette & Herald: “We had nowhere to stay and no clue where to start looking.

But Mr Roberts, who saw us in Malton, came to our aid and when we explained our situation, he began phoning contacts to find alternative accommodation.”

As a result, the couple were provided with an ideal cottage in Glaisdale for their holiday.

Mrs Moreton said: “We had a very stressful time until Dave came to help. Thank goodness for lovely people who go out of their way to help strangers.”
