Last chance to speak up on Ryedale Plan blueprint

THE planning blueprint for the future of Ryedale has been released for a final period of consultation.

The Ryedale Plan is an influential planning document that aims to help secure investment in new homes, jobs and shops in the area for the next 15 years.

Proposals include support for the building of 200 new homes a year as well as the release of land for new business, office and shopping space all aimed at providing residents with better choices over where they live, work and shop in the district.

A council spokesperson said: “The plan has been prepared following consultations over a number of years and the current consultation period marks the last opportunity for people in Ryedale to make their views known before it is submitted to the Secretary of State for a formal examination later in the year.

“The plan aims to protect Ryedale’s high-quality countryside by focusing most new development at the five market towns and at a limited number of larger villages, allowing new homes and jobs to be located next to the wide range of existing service and facilities.

“Crucially, it recognises for this to be achieved successfully improvements to roads, schools and other services will be needed to support growing communities.”
