ONE of the most fascinating and intelligent creatures in the ocean is coming to North Yorkshire as part of a £200,000 project at one of the region’s most popular tourist attractions.

The Scarborough Sea Life Centre is expected to open its Octopus Garden in mid-February, with the main attraction being a Giant Pacific Octopus, one of the most intelligent creatures in the sea, weighing in at 15kg and with a four-metre arm span.

Manager Mike Salt said: “We will also have a common octopus like Paul, the psychic octopus from Oberhausen Sea Life in Germany, who achieved global fame with his eight straight correct World Cup predictions.”

The attraction will also house colour-changing cuttlefish and the jet-propelled, gas-fuelled prehistoric cephalopods ‘nautilus’ – an octopus inside a spiral shell.

“They lend a whole new meaning to the term ‘wind power,’ as they use their own bodily gases to move up or down,” said Mike.
