ORGANISERS of this year’s Malton Show said was the busiest day ever.

Celebrating its 132nd anniversary, the show was once again held at Scampston Park, near Rillington, on Sunday.

Chairman Charlie Breese said: “We had record trade stand entries and a really good feel to how the trade stands all worked in terms of layout. Many trade stands have already pre-booked for next year.

“It was fantastic to have Georgia and her family there for the day. They really got stuck into what Malton Show is all about, met a lot of exhibitors, stewards and committee members.

“Georgia did a cracking job judging the young sheep handlers, as well as the difficult task for a great turnout in the children’s mounted fancy dress. Not an easy job.

“We had record entries of vintage tractors, as well as vintage cars, which created some great noise, smell and atmosphere.

“The school band did a great job of adding some buzz around the really successful StandPipe bar with their fire engine and Pimms bars.”

Charlie said members had a lovely day from their exclusive enclosure and enjoyed the amazing weather.

“Middleton Hunt did a great job of keeping the hounds cool in the lake and then running them around the ring,” he said.

“Frank Curtis won the best trade stand for their excellent combination of equipment, as well as hospitality in a well presented enclosure.”

Charlie said the children’s areas worked really well and donkey rides was a welcome new addition.

The children’s tug-of-war was won by the girls this year – two to one.

“Malton Show remains one of the leading agricultural shows of the season and continues to embrace farming and agriculture at its core, thriving with livestock, vintage tractors, fur and feather, local crafts, a wide variety of trade stands, classic cars, a dog show and much more,” he said.

“We would like to thank our primary sponsors, BATA, for their continued support of the show, as well as our other regular sponsors, together with some new ones.

“Sponsors really do play a key part in the success of events such as Malton Show.

“We were also delighted to formally welcome Vic Bruce to the show in his new role of vice-chairman.

“Although Vic has been doing a lot of work for the show in previous years, he has kindly taken on a more formal role.

“The rest of the committee, our secretary and other heads of sections continue to work tirelessly behind the scenes make the activities on the day work effortlessly with so much of this work going unseen.

“My thanks to everyone for their toils and tribulations over the last 12 months getting us to show day.

“This year was our busiest show ever with more people through the gates and the car park over flowed for the first time in many years.”

Show secretary Anne Welham said: “All feedback from everyone has been extremely positive with an excellent standard of livestock, fantastic trade stands and lots of other attractions.

“The weather was amazing and it was a very enjoyable day after all the hard work.

Anne said: “A huge thank you to all helpers who do an amazing job without you all we could not cope.

“We hope everyone enjoyed their day.”
