FIRE services were called to two scrubland fires on the edge of the moors last night amid hot and dry conditions.
Fire engines from Thirsk and Helmsley were called firstly to Boltby Forest near Boltby at 6.36pm.
They arrived at a scrubland fire measuring around 10m by 5m. Crews used knapsack sprayers and beaters to extinguish the fire.
Then, at 7.50pm, fire engines from Thirsk, Helmsley and Easingwold - along with an 'argocat' all-terrain vehicle from Kirkbymoorside station - attended a larger scrubland fire at Sutton Bank.
Measuring 60m by 10m, crews again used knapsack sprayers, beaters and high pressure lances to extinguish the fire.
