THREE people have been taken to hospital after a fire broke out at a house in Norton in the early hours of this morning.

Fire crews were called to East Road at about 3.30am and used hose reel jets to put out the flames.

North Yorkshire fire service has confirmed that three people who were in the house managed to get out. They have all been taken to hospital suffering from smoke inhalation.

Neighbour Erika Perrin, said she woken up around 3am after hearing her son, Andrew shouting "there's a fire".

"I thought I was dreaming at first then Andrew came into my bedroom and said there is a house on fire," she said.

"I looked out of the window and saw flames shooting out of one of the bedrooms. There was the sounds of like an explosion and glass breaking. Flames were also coming out to the roof."

"Andrew rang 999 to say there was a house on fire in our street. The fire brigade were here in minutes, although at the time it seemed much longer."

"There was a girl and a dog sat in the street and the man who lives there was sat on a seat and was in obvious shock."

"Someone was looking after him and brought out bandages for his arm and feet until the ambulance came."

Mrs Perrin added: "He has always been very helpful and painted my gates and another neighbours wall. It has all been quite a shock."
