THORNTON-le-Dale Bowls Club has held its annual gala day, sponsored by Enterprise Motors in Pickering and The Buck Inn, Thornton-le-Dale.

This year it was in the form of a whistlestop competition with 12 teams taking part from the local area and as far as Sleights and Hutton-le-Hole.

The competition, played in glorious sunshine, was buzzing with friendly chatter and showcased some fantastic bowling, which was a close result in the end, with Thornton-le-Dale team of Joe Strickland and Terry Tapley alongside their team mate, John Eddon from Kirkbymoorside BC, taking first prize and the Millennium Cup.

The team from Seamer BC led by Edwin White were runners-up and Jim Dawson’s team from Snainton BC took third place.

The day was made a successful fundraising event due to generous donations from the sponsors, Thornton-le-Dale businesses, who contributed to the raffle prizes, and members who provided the refreshments on sale.
