FUN for all the family will be on offer at Pickering game and country fair this weekend.

The annual event, now in its eleventh year, is held at Pickering showground, just outside the town.

Two arena programmes begin at 9am and run until 5pm each day.

After a successful introduction in 2013, the event will feature a series of equine events, including horse showing classes on the Saturday followed by a show jumping competition and heavy horse show on the Sunday.

Event organiser, Richard Ashworth, said: "Also taking to the ring is award-winning gun dog trainer Adrian Slater who will be demonstrating his skills for the crowds as well as hosting gun dog scurry tests on land and water.

With 35 years experience of training, judging, teaching and breeding gun dogs, Adrian is recognised as one of the best handlers in the UK, qualifying to run in the England Gun Dog Team for the past 10 years.

"Another main arena highlight will be the fast-paced Mounted Games Association of Great Britain whose riders will compete on horseback in a series of challenges against the clock."

Richard said families could join in the fun with their pet in a fun dog show starting at 9.30am each day along with a dog agility course, available for the novice to have-a-go and also those wishing to compete against the clock.

"Taking place on both days, ferrets, as well as terriers and lurchers, will take part in fast-paced racing and shows organised by Alan Tyer, chairman of the Association of Lurcher Clubs," he added.

"National clay pigeon shooting will also take place during the weekend and visitors to the fair will be able to put their trigger power to the test by taking part in various challenges from each discipline from beginners to advanced."

Back by popular demand is flycasting tuition and demonstrations to be carried out by Hywel Morgan, who has competed successfully at World and European levels.

Adults and kids will have the opportunity to meet birds of prey including vultures, owls, falcons, hawks and eagles along with a reptile marquee.

Pickering Game & Country Fair will also play host to the UK Tractor Show with hundreds of tractors on display, many of which will be taking part in tractor pulling competitions in the tractor pulling arena.

A highlight for the UK Tractor Show is the entry of a Lanz Express Bulldog tractor, believed to be the only one of its kind in the country.

Admission is £8 for adults, over 65’s £7, children (under 16s) £4 and a family ticket admitting two adults and three children is £20.

For those wanting to make a weekend of it, a pre-booked camping and caravanning pitch costs £40 per pitch which includes family admission (two adults and three children) to Pickering Game & Country Fair.
