TOTALLY Locally in Malton and Norton has launched a May Fiver-Fest.

Shops in both towns are offering something special for £5 until the end of the month.

Malton and Norton became Totally Locally towns two years ago.

The aim is to promote services shoppers have on their doorstep and encourage people to “love where they live”.

Richard Horsewood, chairman of Malton and Norton Chamber of Trade, said the initiative had been taken up by an encouraging number of businesses in the two towns.

“The May Fiver-Fest underpins one of Totally Locally’s key messages: If everyone in Malton and Norton spent £5 in an independent shop which they would have otherwise spent online or in a big supermarket, it would be worth a vital £2.6m each year for our local economy," he added.

"We want independent shops to have a collective feel and encourage people to use businesses in the town."
