ARTISTS from across York and beyond will open their studios to the public for free over the next two weekends.

York Open Studios 2015 will see more than 90 artists showcase their work, starting tomorrow.

Painters, printmakers, sculptors, jewellers, photographers and furniture makers will all be opening their doors to visitors.

Those exhibiting include Richard Barnes and Ben Arnup.

Mr Barnes specialises in dramatic and colourful landscape paintings, which visitors can view at Bootham School Arts Centre.

He said: “It’s a fantastic opportunity to get all the practising artists in York together. You get to have a look at their work and particularly the more experimental pieces.

“I have got some really large pieces, which I can show to the people of York and Yorkshire.”

He added: “In a gallery, the art is curated in a certain way, but in this you can show people work that you are halfway through and how you do it. It is a bit of a behind-the-scenes look for people.”

Mr Arnup is a ceramic artist and the son of sculptor Sally Arnup, another York Open Studios exhibitor.

Art fans can see his work at The Cottage, Love Lane, York.

Painter Steve Williams is making his York Open Studios debut, and visitors will be able to see his work at 2, St Luke’s Grove in the city.

Among his work on show will be a painting called York Minster, Spring 2015. He said: “It encapsulates my feelings of the good vibes that The Minster generates to everyone who visits our beautiful city.”
