The Met Office has issued a yellow warning of snow for northern England and Scotland.

Rain will move eastwards into the UK during the early hours of Thursday and is likely to turn to sleet and snow as it comes inland across parts of Scotland and northern England. Accumulations of one to four cm are likely above 200 to 250m with locally five to 10 cm possible above about 350m.

At lower levels, accumulations appear less likely although a cm or so of slushy deposits are possible in places. Even at this late stage there is uncertainty regarding the amounts of snow the as situation is very finely balanced.

The rain, sleet and snow should clear away eastwards during the morning although may persist for longer on higher routes.

The public should be aware of the potential for difficult driving conditions on some of the higher routes in particular.
