AN appeal to ensure a well-known Kirkbymoorside character is buried in the town has has an “overwhelming” response.
Colin Woof, died on January 15, aged 70, but had no family to take responsibility for his funeral.
The town council, local residents as well as the church and local history group set up an appeal fund to ensure he was able to come home for burial and following a report in last week’s Gazette & Herald, have collected more than £1,300.
Louise Mudd, from Kirkbymoorside History Society, said they had received a fantastic response and expected to have enough to cover the funeral costs.
Flowers have been provided by Busy Liz’s, in Kirkbymoorside, with Bridget’s Café and the Kings Head providing refreshments. Dales of Thirsk will create a memorial tablet for Colin and his parents, Godfrey and Sybil.
Colin’s funeral is at All Saints Church, Kirkbymoorside, at 2pm, tomorrow (Thursday).
