PLANS to promote tourism in Yorkshire will be unveiled at a conference next month.

Welcome to Yorkshire will host the Y15 event in Scarborough on March 18.

New campaigns, initiatives and projects will be announced, including Welcome to Yorkshire’s entry for the RHS Chelsea Flower Show. About 1,000 people will attend the event at Scarborough Spa, which will be presented by sports presenter Rob Walker.

It will feature star guests, with previous events having welcomed Yorkshire celebrities ranging from Last Tango in Halifax star Dean Andrews to Paralympic superstar Hannah Cockroft MBE, as well as Deputy Prime Minister Nick Clegg.

Janet Deacon, North Yorkshire area director for Welcome to Yorkshire, said: “We’re thrilled to be hosting the UK’s biggest tourism conference in Scarborough, especially this year when the town will welcome the Tour de Yorkshire. It’s a unique opportunity for anyone involved in the tourism industry in this region to find out what’s planned for the year ahead, and to network with others.”

Gary Verity, chief executive of Welcome to Yorkshire, said: “Yorkshire’s profile as a destination has never been higher, so it is absolutely essential that together as a county we take advantage of this opportunity to cement our place on the global tourism stage.

“Y 15 will help bring businesses together and highlight our plans for the future to capitalise on the achievements already made – and even better, it’s free to attend.”
