A RYEDALE man has reached a centenary milestone after giving 100 donations of blood.

Frederick Temple, known as Jimmy, who lives at West Knapton, first became a donor in 1966 when he went along to a session with a group of friends.

Now aged 71, he has continued to make regular donations as his blood matches all other groups and is often used for emergencies.

"I have always thought it is a good thing to do and you don't know when you may need it yourself," he added.

Jimmy , who has been recognised for his donations with certificates and a glass bowl, said he would encourage others to donate blood as more donors were always needed.

"I would love to go on and reach my 125th donation if I can," he added.
