RYEDALE Citizens Advice Bureau (CAB) is launching a new project to help youngsters realise their career goals.

The pilot of the Fighting Chance Project aims to provide support and assistance to people in Ryedale between the ages of 16 and 24 who are either unemployed or under-employed.

The project will help them to develop skills tailored towards their chosen career, while also building up a portfolio of industry-specific skills.

Project coordinator Thijs Baxter said the programme will also involve young people learning how to write CVs and cover letters, as well as teaching them good interview techniques.

She said: “We meet lots of young people who are very keen to either get in to work or find a better job, but tell us that they can’t find support and we think that we’re in a very strong position to be able to help. We will also be working with clients to find meaningful work placements and voluntary positions to build their skills in the industry they want to enter.

“Fighting Chance is about supporting people to get a job with opportunities for career development, a job that means something to them.”

The Fighting Chance Project, funded by Awards for All, has vacancies for two volunteers to join the team at the CAB.
