NORTH Yorkshire County Council is to increase its support for a service which gives intensive help to Scarborough’s most vulnerable homeless people to get back on track.

In its latest review of its Supporting People funding for homelessness, the County Council has decided to continue its funding of the “Changing Lives” service which tackles rough sleeping in the town.

The service, which was due to finish next year, will now continue with county council funding through to September 2016.

As well as reductions in rough sleeping the Changing Lives service has also supported numbers of homeless people into work, education and training and volunteering; 15 people have been reintegrated back into their families; over 20 have reported sustained abstinence from drugs and alcohol; 30 have reported improvements in their physical, emotional or psychological well-being; 20 have reported improvements in their personal care and 100 per cent of those on the Changing Lives caseload have been registered with GPs.
