A NURSE who has recently learnt she has cancer has raised more than £2,000 for the hospice where she works.

Debbie Keld said the diagnosis changed her life dramatically in a few short hours but she wanted to turn it into a positive experience.

Before losing her hair through chemotherapy, she chose to have it cut off to raise money for St Catherine’s Hospice, Scarborough, watched by more than 100 people. The sponsored haircut raised £815 on top of the £1,356 already raised.

“It is the most amazing place and I feel blessed to work there,” she said. “Hopefully, I’ll be back soon.

“One thing I can definitely say about this whole experience is that when things get tough you certainly find out how many friends you have quietly supporting you. Without the support of the constant stream of visitors to our house, the tears, the laughter, the love and emotional support, I am certain this would be much more difficult to deal with.”

Debbie has T-cell lymphoma and has worked at the hospice for more than ten years. Her JustGiving account is http://www.justgiving.com/DebbieKeld
