TWO pub machine raiders have been jailed and another is on the run and believed to be in Spain after their trip to North Yorkshire ended in a police cell.
Officers stopped a Vauxhall Vectra with Brian Chisolm Sexton, 35, at the wheel and passengers Ian Andrew Sparkes, 36, and Billy Richard-Jones, 23, on the A64, said Michael Cahill, prosecuting.
They had pockets stuffed with £1 coins taken from pub gaming machines and tools for getting into the machines hidden in the car. Altogether they had 182 £1 coins.
CCTV taken from the Commercial Hotel, Scarborough, showed Richard- Jones keeping a look-out as Sexton rummaged inside a gaming machine.
Richard-Jones, of no fixed address, and Sparkes, of Spring Street, Oldham, both admitted conspiracy to steal and were jailed for eight weeks each.
Sexton, of Imperial Drive, Airdrie, is wanted on warrant after failing to answer his bail and, York Crown Court heard, is believed to be in Spain.
Emma Bennett, for Sparkes, said he had served the equivalent of a six-month prison sentence whilst on remand. Richard-Jonesis already serving 54 months for a serious assault and the latest will run concurrently.
