MALTON and Norton Tidy Group is taking part in a jubilee event to help keep the country tidy.

Keep Britain Tidy is 60 years old this year and in order to celebrate the anniversary they are asking communities to hold a Big Jubilee Tidy Up this October.

Since 2008, The Big Tidy Up has helped to encourage more than half a million people in more than 25,000 groups to collect nearly 120,000 bags of rubbish.

Malton and Norton Tidy Group will be holding their monthly meet-up on Sunday. This year members have carried out a number of community gardening tasks but have also collected over 150 bags of litter from across the towns.

To tie in with the Big Jubilee Tidy Up, litter picking will be carried out at the October event.

Anyone who wants to get involved is asked to meet in Water Lane car park in Malton at 10am, bringing gloves. Litter pickers and bags will be provided, courtesy of Ryedale District Council’s Streetscene.
