A RECORD number of community groups from North Yorkshire have been selected to receive a royal award.

Fourteen groups are among 43 organisations around Yorkshire to receive recognition under the Duke of York’s Community Initiative.

The full list of North Yorkshire award winners is: Helmsley Walled Garden; Dementia Forward, Ripon; Ryedale Carers Support; Paperworks, Harrogate; Tadcaster Volunteer Car Service Association; Ryedale Youth Theatre; Stokesley and District Community Care Association; Tockwith and District show; The Carers’ Resource, Harrogate; Open Country, Harrogate; Whitby, Scarborough and Ryedale Disability Action Group; Derwent Valley Bridge Community Library and Resource Centre; The Washburn Heritage Centre and Hovingham Village Market.

Eight community groups from East Yorkshire have also been selected to receive the awards: Goole Social and Shooting Club; Independent Domestic Abuse Service, York; Stamford Bridge in Bloom; The Jack Raine Community Foundation, York; York Children’s University; Wolds Wonders, Pocklington; Yorkshire (North and West) Army Cadet Force and Unity in Community – North Hull Community Development.

The groups will go to a ceremony with the Duke of York at the end of October, and will receive support and mentoring.
