A CYCLIST has died after being seriously injured in a collision with a lorry.

The 49-year-old man was cycling on the A19 towards Eggborough at about 8.45am on Saturday, when he was in collision with a heavy goods vehicle at the roundabout with the M62.

The cyclist, who was riding a dark grey Specialised bike and was from Pollington, near Goole, lost a leg in the crash and was airlifted to Leeds General Infirmary, where he later died.

Traffic Constable Zoë Billings, of the Force’s Major Collision Investigation Team, said: "If you witnessed the collision and have not yet contacted the police, I urge you to do so straight away.

"I am particularly keen to speak to anyone who may have seen the pedal cycle prior to the incident and ask them to get in touch as soon as possible."

TC Billings said the cyclist was wearing black and red clothing and a black and red rucksack, and urged anyone who saw the crash, to phone 101, email majorcollisioninvestigationteam2@northyorkshire.pnn.police.uk or phone Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555111.
