WORK is underway to resurface sections of the A64 between Bramham and Malton over the next two months. It will be carried out in phases, improving 8.5 miles of road with night diversion routes in place.

The work includes carriageway resurfacing and patching, the renewal of road markings and road studs, reinstating traffic monitoring loops and renewing damaged road gullies.

Highways Agency project manager, Steven Wright said: “This is a £2.2 million scheme taking place to prolong the life of the carriageway. The work has been designed to improve the surface of the road and improve safety for road users, while minimising the need for future works. “We ask that drivers take care travelling through the roadworks and along the diversion routes, follow the traffic signs and any instructions of site staff.”

Work started on Monday (22 September) and will be completed by November 12. Until October 2 work will take place Monday to Thursday nights between 8pm and 6am. From October 6 work will take place every night, 8pm to 6am.

Phase 1 is between Flaxton Moor and Barton Hill Crossroads on the eastbound carriageway, with lane closures, temporary traffic signals and convoy working on the dual carriageway, 22 to 29 September.

Phase 2 is between Grimston Bar and Hopgrove Roundabout with overnight closures of the eastbound carriageway from 30 September to 12 October. Phase 3 is between Bramham and Headley Bar, with overnight closures of eastbound carriageway, 13-19 October. Phase 4 is between Tadcaster and Askham Bryan, with overnight closures of eastbound carriageway, 20 October to 4 November. Phase 5 is Bilbrough Top and Tadcaster, overnight closures of westbound carriageway, 5 to 12 November.
