LARGE amounts of drugs have been seized in North Yorkshire by police carrying out routine patrols.

A Ford Mondeo was pulled over in Crankley Lane, Easingwold, by officers from the Road Policing Group at 3.15pm on Monday who searched the vehicle and found two large bin liners filled with cannabis in the boot.

The driver, a 21-year-old York man, was arrested on suspicion of possession of cannabis, and has been released on police bail while inquiries continue.

Two days later, officers from the Road Policing Group pulled over a Vauxhall Zafira in Malton under a routine stop, and searched the vehicle where they found suspected heroin. They arrested a man and a woman from West Yorkshire, on suspicion of possession with intent to supply Class A drugs.

Meanwhile, two men were arrested on Tuesday after an illegal skimming machine was attached to a York cash machine.

Officers from the York West safer neighbourhood team were called to Front Street in Acomb, after a member of the public reported the device, which can steal the security details of customers who used the cash machine.

Police arrested two men at the scene - who were aged 25 and 26 and both from Birmingham - on suspicion of fraud by false representation.

They were later cautioned for possessing an article related to fraud and released on Tuesday evening.
