STAFF and pupils at Malton Community Primary School staff are celebrating after receiving a “good” inspection by Ofsted.

Inspectors, who spent two days at the school said pupils achieved well, built positive relationships and had a love of learning.

“The school’s curriculum provides children with exciting experiences and engages their own interests,” the report said.

“Leaders take firm action to bring about improvements and the school has forged good relationships with parents. The positive relationship between teachers and pupils is also a strength of the school.”

The school, which leads a delegated local authority service for supporting pupils with behavioural, emotional and social difficulties, was praised by Ofsted for introducing a child leadership development programme. Through this, pupils have been trained to deliver specialist sessions to their peers including computing, gardening and cricket.

Headteacher Kelly Wilkinson, who joined the school in 2009 aged 28, taking up the head’s post three years ago, said the school was now unrecognisable both in staffing, environment and ethos. She said: “We have a clear, shared vision for the future and use this to drive the school onwards and we are a brave staff with strength of mind and sheer determination.

“The school’s staff are now embracing a researched based approach to developing teaching and learning as Malton embarks on the next stage of its journey, with several staff participating in the school’s self-led action research projects and many others completing post graduate qualifications. After several years of instability we are now very well-placed to lead the way forward in several areas.

“This is now Malton Community Primary’s time to shine.”
