PLANS have been drawn up for the annual Light Up a Life tree lighting ceremonies organised by St Catherine’s Hospice in Scarborough.

Seven venues will host the ceremonies at the beginning of December, including Malton Market Place at 6pm on Tuesday, December 2, and Helmsley Market Place at 6pm the next day.

Organisers say Light up a Life is an opportunity for people to get together, celebrate, reflect and remember the lives of loved ones.

Those supporting the scheme can dedicate a light in memory of loved ones, while also supporting the work of the hospice.

From the beginning of December until 12th night, the trees will be lit with lights across the area embraced by the hospice.

Those who make a dedication will be sent a personalised Light up a Life card and the names of loved ones will be recorded in a Book of Memories.

This can be viewed at the lighting-up ceremonies, which will include a short service, carols and prayers followed by refreshments.

The book will also be available to view at the hospice shops in Malton, Bridlington, Driffield, Filey, Helmsley, Whitby Hospital and at the hospice in Scarborough.

There is no minimum donation for each light, but forms setting out the dedications need to be submitted by November 21.
