YORKSHIRE Wolds Railway hosted a members’ preview day.

Close to 100 people visited the site of the railway restoration project which was formed in October 2008, exactly 50 years after closure of the Malton to Driffield line.

The day gave members the chance to see the progress made on the Visitor Centre before it opens to the public, which will hopefully be spring 2015 at the latest. Recent work done on the coach, fencing and garden was all done by volunteers, keen to see part of the old line reopened as a steam railway. Planning permission has been granted to lay almost 1 mile of track towards Wetwang; which will start as soon as the initial site at Fimber Halt is open.

The centre will be a multi-purpose venue allowing for presentations to be given to local groups and schools.
