TWO mums have been inspired to set up their own baby classes after seeing the benefits to their own children.

Nikki Scott-Somers and Susannah Stuart are launching the baby sensory classes in Norton next month with the aim to roll out further sessions across Ryedale.

Aimed at parents and their babies, from birth to 13 months, the classes are based on the research of Dr Lin Day and his book Baby Sensory.

Susannah said activities incorporated every possible sensory experience including sign language, massage, fibre optic light shows, bouncy light balls, rainbows, bubbles and bells.

"My son Ralph and I attended Baby Sensory classes in York which was the closest ones to where we live," she added.

"We loved the fun activities and the fact they were benefitting Ralph's development was an added bonus."

Susannah said: "It quickly became apparent that there was a large area within East and North Yorkshire that did not have easy and local access to Baby Sensory classes, so we decided to buy a franchise and start running them ourselves"

Nikki said Baby Sensory was designed to encourage early development.

"Babies have an amazing capacity to absorb information and the weight of a baby’s brain doubles in the first year of its life," she added.

"The joy and sense of awe from seeing your baby learn, communicate and develop is worth the effort of squeezing it into your schedule and we are confident parents will love Baby Sensory. Parents can join at any time and activities are suitable for all babies."

Classes will start at the Church House, Langton Road, Norton, on Wednesday , September 3, 10 - 11am for babies aged six to 13 months and 11.30am - 12.30pm for those aged up to six months.
