A house in Helmsley, branded one of the Yorkshire’s oldest houses, has won a major award.
Canons Garth, which has two crown post roof trusses dating back to about 1275, picked up the award for Best Conservation Project in the North York Moors National Park’s Design Awards.
The house has been used for a variety of reasons over hundreds of years, including as a vicarage and a hospital. Competition judges said the family who own the house had created a comfortable family home while maintaining its character and historic significance.
A complex of 11 social houses in Westfield Broadacres, Osmotherley, won best new development of the past year.
