WHITE Rose Home Improvement Agency has been awarded a new three-year contract so it can continue to help older and vulnerable residents live independently in their own homes across Ryedale.

A non-profit making partnership between Ryedale District Council and Scarborough Borough Council, White Rose provides practical support and advice to people.

White Rose manager Lynn Williams said: “People may have previously used handyperson services operated by Broadacres and Age UK across Ryedale and Scarborough, but these services are now being operated by White Rose.

“As part of the new contract we have retained the existing handypersons – Dave Rainton, Dave Parnaby and Gary Wright – so we’re hoping these familiar faces will give our customers peace of mind and confidence in the service we provide.”

The service carries out minor adaptations and small repairs, such as fitting shelves, smoke alarms, changing light bulbs and hanging pictures.

Work cost £15 an hour, plus the cost of any materials, however some works may be free of charge. Anyone interested in using the service can phone 01723 232527.

White Rose also offers a free home-based well being service assessment looking at factors such as personal safety, including aids and adaptations that can assist with independence, security and fire safety, benefits awareness, energy efficiency and social and recreational activities.
