Drivers taking a turn for the worst
I would love to know what causes certain people to risk theirs and lots of other people's lives by trying to cross the A64 from Towthorpe heading towards Stockton-on-the-Forest and vice versa, or turning right from either of those destinations, especially on weekends.
Ten years ago, it may have been possible to do so, but now? I have racked my brains trying to think of a place they cannot get to by going another route, albeit a bit further but safer and quicker - and I can't.
Old and young alike seem to try and tackle this, and I would love to know if either they just purely and simply have a death wish, or are suffering from Munchausen's by Proxy and just want to cause pain to others.
Either way, it's idiotic and just shows a total lack of respect for the innocents they could kill by not thinking or taking a little time to plan their journey.

Wigginton,

Yes, it's a nasty one, but Coastliner buses have no choice but to turn right from Stockton, so it's scarcely "idiotic". I must say I'm glad I only do it on the top of a double-decker!

Well another route would add probably 3 to 5 miles to the journey with associated petrol costs and emmission damaging the environment, not to mention the amount of time negotiating speed humps and queues. You are right that the road is a nightmare to cross but, having done so on more than a few occasions, it is not always unsafe to do so. It is also a perfectly legal route, so if you think that something needs to be done then maybe you should get onto the Highways agency about road improvements. I can imagine what the response will be...

Yes, you [italic]can[/italic] get from one place to another without using that junction, but it might be many miles further and take several times longer - especially given the queues that can build up on the main roads.
The more important question is why the Highways Agency hasn't done anything to improve this catastrophic junction.

I'm sorry Julie do you have say on what junctions people in York can and cannot use? This is possibly the worst letter i have ever seen. 'people who use junctions are idiots.' Suggest junction improvements by all means but you cant just go around dictating where people can and cannot drive!

Voiceoreason - I think you will find Julie is expressing an opinion, thats how I read the letter anyway. Also, Ive sat at that junction many times, Sundays and Bank Holidays, i have no idea why people do it.
BL, it doesnt add that much on to any of the journeys i use as an alternative and how do you compare 3-5 miles environmental cost on that of lives?? Plus as they sit at that junction for a long time, they are probably doing more damage!
