Readers' letters
Not so crazy
I refer to the letter "Crazy antics" in The Press on May 5.
Referring to the person who wrote this letter, not all private hire drivers are ignorant.
How does this person expect drivers to pick up and drop off disabled passengers when they cannot stop outside pubs, shops, etc (double yellow lines). Does the writer expect the passengers to be dropped off in a more convenient place to "other" drivers, expecting them to make their own way to their destination? Why then do we have taxis?
As for the bus lane in Tadcaster Road - why does the sign say "Buses, taxis and cyclists"? So private hire are not a taxi?
So if private hire are not a taxi, why does City of York Council charge so much for plates and licences?
Does this person ever use a taxi, or is he one of the minority who likes to walk or use the bus?
John Wilcox,
Woodthorpe,
York.
I would like to state that the letter regarding the "crazy antics" of private hire drivers has absolutely nothing to do with me.
As you will note from previous letters, I always have the courage to include my name and address, and despite accusations from certain private hire vehicle drivers, this is not my letter.
Alan Rowley,
Millfield Lane,
York.
