Flagging interest
Our city of York is rightly recognised as a world attraction for a multitude of reasons and tourists come from all corners of the earth to see our city and soak up the unique atmosphere which is York.
High on the list of places to visit are the Minster and the Coppergate Centre, the latter having attracted enormous interest since it opened years ago.
Stand in the middle of the square and raise your eyes upwards, and on top of the building now housing M&S Home, etc, you will see the remnant of what once was a house flag, now a mere rag, some three-quarters torn off by the elements, not by action as in a regimental colour. It may not be fashionable these days to fly the flag, but why then have a flagstaff at all?
