WITH the amount of eggs flying around one would think Channel 4 were planning to film a new cookery programme in Central Stockton.

In fact, the eggs were not for cooking. They were for throwing straight at the Channel 4 team who were in town searching for a brand new location for the controversial television series Benefits Street.

Reports say residents of one street in Stockton, armed with eggs and water had the production crew scrambling for cover.

Teesside has incredibly high rates of unemployment, so programmes like Benefits Street are the last thing this area needs.

The stigmatisation of job seekers by programmemakers like Channel 4 only fuel the furnace of an already blinkered coalition Government.

Middlesborough has already given the production crew their marching orders.

While there, the Channel 4 crew may have sampled the delicacy they call the Boro Parmo. But if they ever return to Teesside they will sample another local delicacy – the Stockton omelette.
