Lance Bombardier Matthew Philip Hatton 1986 - 2009

Book of condolence for Matthew Hatton

THIS is Lance Bombardier Matthew Hatton, out on patrol in Afghanistan, doing the job he loved and had always dreamed of doing.

The picture of the 23-year-old from Haxby, York, was taken in Sangin, Helmand province, on a tour of duty earlier this month.

Less than a fortnight later, he was killed when two bombs exploded as he was back on patrol serving his country.

This page is dedicated to personal tributes to Matthew and we ask that you respect his memory, family and friends at all times.

Devastating news for Matt's family.
To lose a young man in the prime of life is terrible, but he was doing what he wanted to do and achieved his ambition to be a first class soldier.
RIP Matthew - I have nothing but admiration for you and all the lads in Afghan.

I may not have met you, Matt, but I am proud of you and your colleagues, giving your todays for our tomorrows, just like in the two WWs you have not shirked your responsibility, like so many wish us to do, by calling for us to get out of Afghanistan, leaving the job unfinished. These Yobs who paint over others work (like signs on new walk) should be ashamed when you give up your life for them!

So So Sad, I never knew Matt, but even without knowing him, it is safe to say he is one of Life's True Hero's for risking everything in Afghanistan so we can live our lives’ as normally as possible.

Next time you feel hard done by, think about what this Hero and all the rest of them fighting for our country go through every day and take stock of what we have.

R.I.P Pal

I am proud to have known such a brave and determined lad.

He always wanted to be a soldier and he stands out in my eyes as one of the few that actually followed through with his dreams. His determination to succeed has been echoed by his friends, family and colleagues and I have no doubt he would have gone far if only given the chance.

My thoughts are with his family and friends at this heartbreaking time.
