SEVERAL York community groups are celebrating after being crowned Skipton Building Society Grassroots Giving winners and awarded £500 in funding, following a public vote.
The winners included Main Street Sound Ladies Barbershop Chorus, an acappella chorus of 48 ladies of ages ranging from 17 to 70 plus, all singing in close harmony and the only ladies barbershop chorus in York.
Another winner was Rowntree Park Tennis Club, which provides tennis coaching and opportunities for people of all ages and abilities, with the aim of encouraging juniors to take up the game.
A third was York RI Badminton Club, which provides badminton opportunities to people of all ages and is completely run by volunteers.
The club will use the funding to purchase new shuttles, as currently the juniors have to play with old match shuttles.
