A SCHEME aimed at helping York adults recover from poor mental health has won a major lottery boost.

St Nicks Ecotherapy Centre has received £152,565 from the Big Lottery Fund to support it with a mentoring and ecotherapy programme.

A variety of tools will be used by the centre, including action and recovery wellbeing plans, which aim to build resilience and reduce service dependency.

This scheme is one of 11 that takes place across the Yorkshire region that is sharing almost £3.7 million from the Big Lottery Fund’s Reaching Communities programme.

In West Yorkshire, a community education project which provides older residents with the skills and knowledge they need to protect themselves against doorstep crime, scams and frauds is set to expand after receiving £444,589.

Tim Davies-Pugh, Big Lottery Fund deputy director for England, said: “This is a significant investment in vulnerable people and communities across the Yorkshire and the Humber region.”

“The projects we have funded today demonstrate how National Lottery funding can provide a lifeline to people who would otherwise struggle in their day-to-day life.”
