A VILLAGE celebration will be held in Newton-on-Derwent this weekend, from today until Sunday.

There will be talks on the history of the village and its residents, with archive pictures andinformation a telling of the story of about Harry Blanchard — who was awarded the Victoria Cross for his actions during the First World War.

A marquee has been set up in the village, where stalls and cookery demonstrations will be held, and tours of the village arboretum will also be available.

Events start at 7.30pm today with cheese and wine, and continue throughout the weekend.
