CYCLE project "Love to Ride York" has been nominated for a high profile European Cycling Federation (ECF) award.

The scheme is on of 28 put forward for the ECF's "Book of Ideas", which recognises successful and innovative cycle promotion projects.

York Cycle Challenge has run annually since 2011, but this year’s programme was unique as it was intertwined with the Grand Depart, and the opportunity was seized by the Love to Ride challenge to get even more people than ever on their bikes.

Cllr Sonja Crisp, Cabinet Member for Leisure, Culture and Tourism, said: “I’m delighted that this fantastic challenge has been nominated. The York Cycle Challenge has helped to build a lasting legacy to the Tour de France coming to York. It was great to see so many people getting back on their bikes and encouraging others to do the same and rediscover the joys of cycling for leisure or work.”

David Short from the i-Travel York programme has called on people to vote for the nomination on the European Cyclists Federation Facebook page and "liking" the Love to Ride image.
