HALLOWEEN events in York this year will include York Maze’s Hallowscream and Stockeld Park’s Fright Night, as well as the popular ghost walks and a special "bat walk" in the grounds of a stately home.

As "Europe’s most haunted city " York is reportedly home to more than 500 ghosts.

Now Visit York is launching a host of after dark adventures to celebrate the city's "most haunted" status and keep visitors entertained on Halloween night.

The organisation's Kate Mullen said: "In a city where you can still see evidence of 2000 years of civilisation and unbroken occupation across that time, it is little wonder that many people believe there are still plenty of York’s former residents who remain with us in an incorporeal form.

"We can’t promise every visitor to York will have a spectral encounter but we do have superb ghost walks and scarily fun attractions in the city all year round, plus extra special Halloween-themed offerings."

Halloween highlights include Hallowscream at York Maze and Fright Night at Stockeld Park, a special Shock-olate event at York Chocolate Story, evening bat hunts at Beningborough Hall and Gardens, ghost walks, and Halloween events at York Dungeon.
