THREE tourism businesses in York got a boost when city councillors gave their plans for expansion the go ahead.

Last month a meeting of the planning committee in York approved a retrospective application for eight camping pods on a site in Wigginton, and applications for eight log cabins and a fishing lake in Murton Way and another for 12 camping pods in Holtby.

The Holtby site will be a specialist touring cycling stop, and is located close to the cross-country Way of the Roses cycle way.

Councillors went against the advice of planning officials, who said the site’s location in the Green Belt meant it should not be developed in this way, and heard from the Cycle Touring Club and keen local cyclists who said there was a need for this kind of specialist accommodation in the area, and ward councillor Lynn Jeffries who said there had been no objection from the parish council.
