THE Woodland Trust says ancient woodland must be avoided by Phase 2 of the HS2 railway line.
The charity says various route options are currently being considered for the phase, which will see the new route connected to the existing East Coast Mainline through a spur at Church Fenton, near Tadcaster.
It said two ancient woods in North Yorkshire were at risk - Daniel Hartlys Wood and Ringhay Wood, east of Leeds, as they were very near to the proposed route.
