MP Hugh Bayley is speaking out in Parliament in support for campaigns against domestic violence.
Mr Bayley has tabled an Early Day Motion (EDM) in the House of Commons in support of the White Ribbon Campaign, which seeks to involve men in challenging violence against women and girls.
York was awarded White Ribbon status in May this year because of its commitment to fighting domestic violence.
The EDM praises the 30 local authorities which have like York been recognised with White Ribbon status, and calls on the Government to do more to involve men in ending violence against women and girls.
Former Lord Mayor of York Cllr Julie Gunnell, who championed the cause during her year in office, said: āIām pleased to see this issue gaining national recognition after the efforts of so many people here in York to tackle the problem. We have recognised that little will change until people see positive male role models sending strong messages that any form of abuse or violence against women is unacceptable and they should be properly respected.ā
