RURAL communities in North Yorkshire can apply to take part in a special technology project to boost mobile signal in their area.
Vodafone UK has launched a national programme giving 100 rural communities the chance to bring Vodafone 3G to their patch with its Rural Open Sure Signal project.
It works by fixing a special unit – about the size of a domestic broadband box – to a building like a village hall, pub, or home, and then using existing broadband services to ensure strong mobile coverage in the area. To take part, communities need to work with their MP to apply for the technology to be installed.
A trial project has so far seen the technology go into 12 communities across the UK. Applications for the Rural Open Sure Signal programme close on October 14, 2014, with the first communities to be connected by the end of the year.
