RESIDENTS in North Yorkshire have called for more improvements in road safety.

A survey of almost 2,500 residents, including 263 employees and volunteers of North Yorkshire Police, was commissioned by Julia Mulligan, Police and Crime Commissioner for North Yorkshire, and found 80 per cent were worried about road safety.

A total of 72 per cent said more needed to be done to improve road safety, through education and enforcement, and 52 per cent felt police should have more enforcement options, and would support more mobile speed cameras.

Mrs Mulligan said: “The survey shows loud and clear that residents want more done about road safety, and the fact that we have had several very serious traffic accidents in the area in just the past 10 days underlines the need for action.”

Mrs Mulligan said she would put forward proposals to address road safety concerns to the Executive Board of North Yorkshire Police, with an announcement on changes expected by the end of this month.
