Two lifesaving medics have been honoured for their work.

The Royal Army Medical Corps' Sgt Nikki Robson, 28, and Cpl Rebecca Walley, 25, both from Stoke-on-Trent, received Locality Director’s Commendations from the Yorkshire Ambulance Service at a ceremony held at the Fairfield Manor Hotel in York.

Both received the awards for giving life saving medical assistance to people from the city.

Iraq and Afghanistan veteran Cpl Walley joined the army eight and a half years ago, and is currently on a placement with Yorkshire Ambulance Service.

She said: "It is absolutely fantastic to be here, and people seeing me receive my commendation for saving a patient's life - it’s absolutely fantastic.”

“Being on this paramedic course is just gold-dust. Army medics really want to do this. "Receiving this award means that people can see my achievements and so I’m really happy with it and couldn’t ask for anything more.”

Sgt Robson has been in the Army for 12 and a half years and has seen active service in Bosnia and Afghanistan.

Both soldiers have been working as part of a paramedic team on a joint training and operational scheme between Yorkshire Ambulance Service and the British Army to boost their skills.
